Martin Prosper

Martin Prosper, affectionately known as “25,” was born in a town near St. Louis Du Nord, Haiti, Martin's journey to the United States was fraught with challenges. In search for a better life, when the boat he was on traveling from the Bahamas to the United States was intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard, the boat captain forced him and the other passengers to jump into the ocean. This harrowing ordeal left a lasting impact, underscoring his gratitude for survival and opportunity.

In the Washington, D.C. area, Martin built a life in the hospitality industry, starting at the Holiday Inn Washington Capitol in 1981. His dedication and warmth made him a beloved figure among staff and guests, earning him the prestigious Regional Apple of the Year Award in 1992. Martin retired from the hospitality industry in 2019 and was a member of the union, Unite Here Local 25. His exceptional service and cheerful disposition left a lasting impression on everyone he met, including a couple who invited him to their Texas ranch.
